Just recently Alicia's daycare held a science fair. Alicia's classroom did a project on caterpillars and butterflies! It was pretty cool, as their teachers, Ms. Katie and Ms. Carol did a great job incorporating a lot of different activities for several days that worked with the butterfly life cycle. They had crafty projects, where they made life cycle bracelets, they practiced symmetry in drawing wing patterns, they did a butterfly cycle noodle project, and had a journal for where they drew what they saw in their caterpillar/butterfly garden dome. Of course, they read about the Hungry Caterpillar too in their reading projects.
Below is Alicia's butterfly journal and noodle project.. they have noted the egg, the caterpillar, the chrysalis, and then the butterfly. I love the journal, where the first day the caterpillar has only like one hump and only a few legs, then the next entry he's a happy colorful caterpillar with more humps and legs, and of course, cute little antennae and a smiley face :0)
